Music

On balance, what are the biggest challenges and benefits to the music industries that come from digital communication and distribution?

Challenges:

Due to illegal downloads, there is a decrease in the sale of physical audio.

Copyright issues

Peer to peer sharing
Since music is linked to social network, contents has the ability to go viral in a short span of time.
Music has a low reproduction cost of music and distribution.
Digital distribution equal quick and easy downloads, so if I hear something that I like, I can have in on my PC in no time, free or paid for.

The power of social networks and online music communities is increasing as word of mouth has become a powerful promotional tool and the digitized files can be easily be shared online and this enables viral promotion of both professional and amateur recordings equally.

Online we get more information about music previews, video previews, interviews and promotions.
Fans can interact easily with creators through their personal accounts.

Benefits: Digital communication leads to an increase in the visibility and knowledge of audience

Do current laws adequately address the affordances of digital media (ie do they account for what web media can actually do compared to analog media forms 20 years ago)?

Yes, to some extent.
P2P networks are almost impossible to monitor for individual copyright breaches due to the decentralized nature which developed after the case of Napster.

In comparison 20 years ago in the analog era music could be shared by the recording of a tape however much like the Star trek video tape example given by Tama in the film lecture, the quality quickly degraded with each generation of recording. This is because nowadays, there is many tutorials available online to help amateur create good quality production.

Is radio a dying form in the face of iPods, iPhones and a million other devices capable of playing personalised musical playlists?

The number of people listening to radio is eventually decreasing but radio is not a dying form yet as with the advent of digital radio and stations being able to specialize more to suit the audience, radio will always have a place in people’s lives especially for news, sport and as a background distraction.

People are more exposed to different cultures and prefer certain types of music and hence they would listen download and listen to their favourite music on their iPods or iPhones and other devices.

Television and films

How does time-shifting and recording television alter the viewing experience? Will this destroy the industry if advertisers can't guarantee viewers actually watching (rather than skipping) advertisements?

Time-shifting is the idea of watching something that has been recorded. Time-shifting allows us to rewind, pause, play and skip ads whenever we want to. The Internet has really helped the growth of 'fan culture.' Fans can now interact more with other fans and producers online on social media like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube & blogs and thus create a community.

Yes, to some extent because people would not be understanding the ads as they tend to skip them but at the same time, while skipping ads, they may notice the logo or brand name at least.

Leaver (2008) suggests that the contradictions in current television programming and online extras might be considered a 'tyranny of digital distance'?  What does that mean, and does it matter ?

Time zone will always make global viewing difficult. This barrier will always exists.

Tyranny of digital distance continues to persists as we have so many spoilers online.

Television and films

What television series or films have you watched that include elements of transmedia storytelling? Do you think this approach to engaging with audiences is successful? Have you become more involved with a particular television series, film or set of related films because of the content supplied in other media forms?

a). Harry Potter, Twilight, Star wars, The Hunger Games, Vampire Diaries, Silent Hill(game), Game of Thrones, Fifty shades of Grey, 3 little pigs, 2 states.

b). Yes, definitely it’s a successful way to engage with the audience, especially nowadays, we have so many fans creating “fan fiction” pages and videos on social media like Facebook and YouTube and they share more information about the tv series or movies and the audience can thus participate by commenting and sharing their views online. So many fan fiction videos are being created on YouTube very often where fans produce videos upon different characters or even stories on their favourite characters or even love stories of certain characters.

(c). Yes I have personally become more involved with a particular television series due to the cross telling and different content of the series. The series of book and episodes of the series are far more different which makes me even more curious to watch the series or read the books about it.

BRB

Hey guys, I know it’s been a long time since I haven’t posted anything. The reason was that I really needed a break from everything since I’m on holidays, wanted to relax & be completely detached from everything. Try this out, it’s gonna make you feel better trust me.

So, before I post any other things on “Law of Karma.” I wanted make it very clear that everything that I write on this blog is from my point of view, what I feel & what I’ve understood and thus I have also provided some links where you could just read and understand more.

So, coming to “Law of Karma” again, I’ve recently come across this book: ‘Secrets of Karma’ by T. S. Vijayaraghavan. This is a very interesting book which explains the concept of Karma very well & if you got time, please through it if you want to learn more about this topic. You can also buy this book from Amazon (http://www.amazon.in/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=secrets+of+karma&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Asecrets+of+karma) and eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Secrets-of-Karma-by-T-S-Vijayaraghavan-60-Keys-Unlock-A-Fuller-Richer-Life-NEW-/291182922833?pt=US_Childrens_Books&hash=item43cbdacc51)

Quotes on Karma:

I am the owner of my karma.
I inherit my karma.
I am born of my karma.
I am related to my karma.
I live supported by my karma.
Whatever karma I create, whether good or evil, that I shall inherit.

It is believed that if we ignore the workings of karma, we are creating problems for ourselves as “knowledge on Karma” can actually help us improve ourselves, our lives. Thus, we cannot blame our destiny for it is a known fact that “you are the result of your own deeds” as explained in the quote below:

Watch your thoughts, for they become words.
Watch your words, for they become actions.
Watch your actions, for they become habits.
Watch your habits, for they become character.
Watch your character, for it becomes your destiny.

Buddhist point of view on Karma:

Buddha said:

“Do not think a small sin will not return in your future lives.
Just as falling drops of water will fill a large container,
The little sins that steadfast accumulate will completely overwhelm you.

Do not think a small virtue will not return in your future lives.
Just as falling drops of water will fill a large container,
The little virtues that steadfast accumulate will completely overwhelm you.”

My experience on Twitter

My experience on Twitter has been wonderful so far because I’m used to this platform as I have been using it for more than a year now. I tweet stuffs every day and I often enter conversation with people who follow me, and also through other official pages like TV channels, TV shows and celebrity fan pages where lots of people share their views. Twitter is very easy to use and it is a great source of news, especially when one follows great leaders and actors and check their tweets regularly. Twitter helped me formed a network and I have been noticed by celebrities who have retweeted and favourite my tweets.

Thus, I used Twitter to promote my blog page. I tweeted about my topic and the link to my blog on my page so as make my followers aware of my blog and also so that they can access it directly.

I also left the link to my post “Introducing your topic” so that people can better understand on what I am writing.

I retweeted 5 tweets in my profile and I even commented on the retweets so as to link the tweet with my topic. I also used hashtags like #Dogooddeed, #Spreadlove, #spreadhappiness #PerformgoodKarma, #healtheworld, #Law_of_karma to get people’s attention online as nowadays using hashtags is the new trend and it also allows us to connect with more people using the same hashtags. Hashtags makes it easier for people to search for trending topics.
Here are the retweets:

For these retweets, I have basically taken 2 religions that talk about good deeds/karma: Hinduism and Christianity to show that different religions teach us the same message. I found these two articles most appropriate because I believe that the teachings we get from our scriptures are so meaningful and every word said in there is very important and should be respected by individuals. Moreover, these articles speaks volume about my topic and they are the most interesting one I could find online.

There are many tweets that are relevant to my topic and I also found that many people are using this platform to promote their blogs.

I have retweeted this tweet because this blogger is writing on the topic ‘See God in every little thing’ which I find very interesting and also because it is directly linked to my topic.
